Turning Mexican…

Entitled as such only because I’ve been craving burritos and quesadillas for the last few days.

I finally found my new favorite Mexican food place. It’s Army/Navy Burgers & Burritos over at Glorietta 5.

Well, obviously, they serve burgers and burritos. Oh and onion rings. And fries. And quesadillas. Yum-my!

Last night, I had dinner with my cousin and Kris, my best friend’s brother-in-law, to talk about, guess what, life insurance. I really am growing up if conversations over dinner include life insurance.

Anyway, I was planning to get on some life insurance only because I really need to be forced to save money instead of splurging it on, say, an iPhone or a Blackberry (leaning towards an iPhone, by the way, because I realized I wouldn’t be forced to go into an unlimited surfing plan – unlike the Berry. Or so I think). And I thought it would be a great idea for my cousin, who’s a single mom, to get something just in order for her to be forced to save.

While she and Kris talked, I wolfed down my Steak Burrito and onion rings. Man, those were great. I tried my cousin’s chicken quesadillas and they tasted great too. The Libertea iced tea was as good as they said.

I have to say I really enjoyed the food there…now, how to convince the parents that it’s a good enough place for Sunday lunch?

That hiatus was rather short.

HIATUS

Since I don’t know what to write and I’ve lost my interest in summarizing TV episodes of my favorite shows, I’ve decided that my blog and I will go on an indefinite hiatus.

I want something more out of this blog. I just don’t want to write about trivial stuff. Yes, this was supposed to be a blog about what I like but I’m finding it hard to write about certain stuff. Maybe because I’m not liking them as much. And the world wide web is already full of websites and blogs like mine, if we’re talking about TV episode recaps and spoilers.

I need to recharge.

And I will be on hiatus. Indefinitely.

But I already said that.

The Vampire Diaries: Memory Lane

I’ll just sum up this episode.

Damon, Alaric, Jenna and Mason get together at the Gilbert House. Elena and Caroline are there too. Of course we know that Damon, Alaric and Elena have a motive for the party. Damon keeps cracking dog and wolf related jokes and references. Funniest dialogue for me:

Jenna: Mason was a catch. He had girls lining up.

Damon: Really? Huh… I always pegged you for a lone wolf.

Mason: Well I’m sure I wasn’t half the lady killer you were.

Elena got worried about Stefan because he wasn’t returning her calls. That is because Stefan was busy torturing Katherine. Or at least he thought he was. Turns out Katherine has been sipping vervain for the last 145 years and it doesn’t affect her at all, except if you put it directly on her skin. Katherine told Stefan about her side of the story of what happened in 1864. It is revealed that she didn’t need saving and that she really did come back because she loved Stefan. It’s also revealed that before

Caroline offered to drive Elena to the Salvatore house but kept delaying Elena.

Elena and Stefan stage a fight and made sure Caroline and Damon heard the fight. They later met at Elena’s room to make up.

Heard this song on the radio the other day. I thought it was a great song and I want to share it with everyone who’s reading this blog.

I think this would be a great song for senti/emo moments. :)

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 15

I used to love the show “America’s Next Top Model” but I think it’s declining in quality.

My favorite top model winners are Yoanna House and Naima Mora. And I wonder where they are now.

In fact, where are the other Top Model winners now? I guess the show isn’t exactly living up to it’s name since it’s not exactly producing top models even after 14 cycles.

Of Religion and the RH Bill

I was watching the last two episodes of the series “The Tudors”. There was a scene wherein Bishop Stephen Gardiner presented a warrant of arrest to Lady Hartford, accusing her of heresy. A person would be considered a heretic if you believed in something that strayed even the slightest bit away from the Catholic faith.

But I digress. Lady Hartford told the Bishop that the warrant will never be served because she knows his secret. The secret had something to do with the Bishop embezzling land and money from King Henry VIII, a crime that the Bishop would certainly be punished for. This specific crime was also true of Cardinal Wolsey, former Lord Chancellor to the same King. These two put a lot of “heretics” to torture or death or anyone they thought had to be removed. They were ruthless. They would sometimes advise King Henry about something that would serve personal interests. And they were supposed to be pious men.

And it occurred to me. I am sure that the Wolsey and Gardiner are just two of the priests of the Catholic persuasion during the Renaissance who had the King’s ear. Surely, with plenty of other kings and plenty of other Bishops and Cardinals who advise these kings on matters of trivia and utmost importance, they would have enjoyed certain benefits/advantages from the kings they serve. My point? These guys are wealthy, either secretly or openly. Their wealth may have been either passed on to family members, if they had them, or returned to the state for whatever reason. And I know that kings at the time may have offered pieces of land to the Pope as well.

By the time I finished with the two episodes, I decided I was done with the Catholic faith and that I am almost disgusted with it because of some people who ran and are currently running it. My decision did not come from just two episodes of The Tudors. It didn’t come from four seasons of the series. The feeling of disgust comes from news all over the world, especially those coming from our country, about priests having sexual relations with women and/or children. They’re priests, for heaven’s sake. They shouldn’t be perverting themselves.

My distaste comes from observation of them feeling high and mighty, feeling the need to meddle with the affairs of the state when there is a SEPARATION between the church and the State.

Yes, I understand that we cannot forget our morality but is it also possible that our so-called “morality” is keeping us from progressing because of old-school views on important issues?

So I think that the CBCP (Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines) should just butt out of the Reproductive Health Bill.

From what I understand, the Catholic leadership here in the Philippines are against the following:

• Pre-marital sex
• Extra-marital sex
• Gay sex
• Solo sex
• Porn
• Sex with unnatural family planning (condoms, IUD, etc)
• Vasectomy
• Ligation
• Sex for fun
• Sex not intending to procreate

Okay. So I’m with them on the first three. Yes, while I have gay friends, I still think that sex should be between a physiological man and a physiological woman. The others are just plain ridiculous.

I think family planning using the “rhythm method” aka “natural family planning” is just plain unreliable. A woman who has an irregular menstrual cycle cannot determine when she’ll be fertile or not.

My stand is this: Every one should have a choice. A married couple should be able to enjoy sex for fun. And since the reality is a lot of people are engaging in pre-marital sex, condoms should be accessible to prevent sexual diseases, not only pregnancies.

Taking it to another level, I am even pro-abortion only in the following cases:

• If continued pregnancy will harm the child and eventually the mother
• Rape survivors should be able to have a choice and not be condemned for it. If they decide to keep the child, fine and good. If they decide that they don’t want a reminder from the painful and humiliating experience, they should be able to do it PROVIDED that the crime is well-documented (police blotter at the very least).

And this is what I have to say about the current events that we have here. 

  

 

TV Overload & Mexican Cravings

I’ve just been utterly addicted to online TV.

I find it immensely satisfying that I get to watch episodes in advance in comparison to what is currently being shown on either cable or free TV.

Just within a 15-hour period, I was able to watch two episode of The Tudors (Season 4, Episode 7 & 8) and an episode each from Hellcats and The Vampire Diaries. Say we average the four episodes I’ve watched today at 45 minutes each…that’s about 180 minutes wasted, not counting the hours I spent downloading each episode.

Ugh. This is getting to be pathetic of me.

Anyway.

About Hellcats – I’m really glad that the show is “improving”. We get to know more about Savannah Monroe and her family. We get to see the sharp contrasts and subtle similarities between Savannah’s mom and Marti’s mom. We get to see the progress of Dan and Savannah’s relationship and the decline of Alice and Lewis.

Don’t get me wrong. The plot is still lacking. But at least it’s improving.

On The Vampire Diaries – I’m not too crazy about the flashback episode called “Memory Lane”. I guess the highlight of this episode is that Katherine really did come back for Stefan and she does love him and she wasn’t just screwing around with Damon’s head. Everything else isn’t as important.

On The Tudors – I’m liking Catherine Parr. I think Joely Richardson does a good job of it. I’m falling in love with the kid who plays Prince Edward, Eoin Murtagh. He’s just so adorable.

So I like The Tudors because I like watching historical stuff, although the series is well-known for taking great liberties from history. But I still like it.

I’ve been feeling too lazy to write. I wonder why.

Oh, btw, ate at Baja Mexican Cantina at Greenbelt 5. Loved their Carne Asado Nachos. Not sure about the name of the type of nachos that we had. But it was absolutely wonderful. The grilled chicken burritos were okay. Just okay. Very filling but it wasn’t as tasty as I thought it would be. I ended up munching on the nachos the whole time I was there.

If they were serving onion rings, I’d be happy as a Mexican on siesta. :)

Harry Shum Jr. Talks About Glee

Harry Shum Jr. talks to Marisa Roffman (www.givememyremote.com) about breaking up Artie and Tina and the formerly much-awaited “Britney/Brittany” episode (we no longer have to wait since it has been aired).

 

TV: Glee: Britney/Brittany

Loving the new episode of Glee entitled “Britney/Brittany”. Here’s an episode that showcases the talents of the Glee cast, but mostly those of Heather Morris.

• We find out that Brittany’s full name is Brittany Susan Pierce, making her Brittany S. Pierce. Get it? :)
• Artie, Rachel and Brittany have bad teeth. Brittany’s excuse was she thought that Dr. Pepper was a dentist.
• Can Heather dance or what? She can’t sing as well, but she dances so well! I mean we all knew that she was a dancer for Beyonce’s Single Ladies and her being a dancer was the reason she got hired on Glee. But I bet no one expected her to be this good.
• Santana was funny coming on to Carl, played by John Stamos. I’m looking forward to a William and Carl sing off.
• “Slave For You” was sung better by Britney Spears but danced better by Heather Morris.
• Great performance by Brittany and Santana for “Me Against The Music”. Naya Rivera sings better than Heather. But Heather dances better than Naya.
• IMHO, Rachel Berry RUINED “Baby, One More Time”. She got the look, just not the right sound.
• Artie did a great version of “Stronger”. I really didn’t expect a guy to cover “Stronger” but it worked out pretty great.
• New Directions did a great job on an acapella version of Toxic.

This episode certainly gave Heather Morris/Brittany S. Pierce the spotlight. She was funnier than ever! I noticed Naya/Santana got more lines too.

I loved the fact that Britney played herself and did not appear as a substitute teacher or a nanny or whatever.

There were great Rachel and Finn moments too. My favorite was when Finn walked away from Santana and Brittany to hold hands with Rachel.

And we discover that Rachel can be a conniving bitch. She asked Quinn to check if Finn wanted to get back with Quinn. I’m not sure if Quinn was pretending to be sad that Finn chose Rachel over her. But I kinda got the feeling that though she was a bit sad, she really didn’t care. I thought it was out of Quinn’s character given her sharp resolve in not choosing anyone from Finn and Puck. But that was way nice of her to do that for Rachel.

So far, I think Harry’s the only one left to showcase his talent in a big way. Oh wait, no. We haven’t had a Santana episode yet. And I think “Grilled Cheesus” is gonna be Kurt-centric. So I really look forward to some episodes that’ll be Mike-centric and Santana-centric. Would love to get to know more of the cast and see what they can really do.

Oh, btw, a little bird told me that Charice Pempengco aka Sunshine Corazon will be back for the fourth episode. How true? I don’t know how reliable this bird this. We’ll know soon enough.

And here’s the preview for Glee Season 2 Episode 3 entitled “Grilled Cheesus”. I think this one is gonna be a tear-jerker.
