Well, well, well. It seems like I picked a good day to have Music Monday today.
Today, August 16, 2010 is the 33rd death anniversary of the great Elvis. Whether you liked him or hated him, he does deserve some sort of honor being some of today’s artists’ inspiration.
So that’s why there was a special on him on Bio Channel Asia.
Did you know Elvis was thought of “dissolving borders between black and white”, the colors referring to the races in America. His music was said to be a cross between black music and white music (but don’t we all know that “white” music actually came from “black music”? Didn’t they steal the some of the songs? Check out Dreamgirls and Cadillac Records. Both films feature bits and pieces of music history).
And I was surprised to learn that he never won a Grammy. I don’t know if he won posthumously.
Anyway, here’s a Youtube video (surprise, surprise) of a live performance of Elvis singing “Hound Dog” on The Milton Berle Show. Tell me “Elvis” and this is the song that pops to mind.
