The Vampire Diaries: Plan B

I felt so sorry for Stefan when he cried in this episode.

Yes, Elena and Stefan break up for real this time. They broke up because Katherine had found out that Elena and Stefan were fake fighting and really didn’t break up. Katherine made Jenna stab herself after telling Elena that she had compelled Jenna to spy on her and Stefan. Oh, and Jenna’s going to live.

Damon was feeling pretty guilty too for provoking Katherine’s wrath after Stefan warned him not to. Damon called Katherine using Mason’s cell phone. He told her that he killed Mason and actually regretting feeling celebratory soon after Katherine told him that she had a “Plan B and C and, well, you know how the alphabet goes”. After that phone call, above paragraph happened.

Caroline compelled her mom.

Bonnie helped in this episode. Elena had saved Stefan’s life while they (Caroline, Stefan, Elena and Bonnie) were looking for the moon stone. Incidentally, the moon stone apparently unleashes magical powers so Mason wouldn’t become a werewolf anymore. But that’s according to the now-dead Mason.

And for the cliff-hanger, we see that Katherine is with Matt, compelling him to go after Tyler and not stop until Tyler kills him.

This was such a great episode. I almost felt tearful during the whole break up scene and Damon looked so guilty thinking that he caused the break up. Like if he hadn’t gloated to Katherine, Katherine wouldn’t have known that Mason is dead and wouldn’t have compelled Jenna to stab herself.

Paul Wesley was really great in the break up scene. Special kudos to him. I didn’t know he could act like that. Usually the series just makes him be moody and sad all the time. In this specific scene, it was great because you really could feel Stefan’s pain, but at the same time, like he was trying to choke back sobs, albeit unsuccessfully, trying to be strong for him and Elena.

Oh, and another touching scene? The whole mother-daughter thing between Liz and Caroline. Caroline was telling Liz about her (mis)adventures with Stefan, Elena and Bonnie. Liz had praised her for being a strong and confident woman and told her that she didn’t have to compel her and that she would keep everyone’s secret. Caroline agreed that her mom trusts her but her mom doesn’t trust everyone else. And this is when Caroline compels her into thinking that she got the flu, Caroline made her really salty soup, they bickered and that she has a daughter who really loves her no matter what.

Anyway, I don’t want Matt to die. I hope he doesn’t.

Ian Somerhalder, was, as usual, very charming as Damon. Nina Dobrev plays both Elena and Katherine superbly. A viewer, even if it’s his first time to watch the series, would instantly recognize which one is which. I wonder how she does it?

I’m so looking forward to the next episode, entitled “Masquerade”.
